Well the weather was not looking really good in the morning when we left (0730) It was windy with blowing snow and low ceiling. We made the decision to depart as the weather to the east was better. We took off runway 16 from Innisfail. We broke out on top of the clouds at 3900' (about 900' from the ground) to a nice sunny day and a cool sunrise. First stop on the trip, Williston ND.

From Williston we continued our way south. Around Rapid City the controller vectored us to the west a bit so we could see Mount Rushmore.

From the air Mount Rushmore is not all that big. We had some nice tail winds to push us on to our last stop of the day, Goodland Kansas. Total flying time for day 1 of flying was 7.5 hours. New Orleans was getting closer!
